At age 10, Jacob began taking piano lessons. Within a few weeks, it
became apparent that his amazing talents were somewhere else. After dabbling in other instruments, such as guitar, drums, spoons, and performing as a rave DJ a couple times, he realized that the future lies with those who make musicians sound good, not necessarily with those who make music. Unfortunately, the only gigs he could get were with fledgling grunge, punk, and 3rd wave ska bands. Eventually he found stability in a group of musicians with amazing potential, the Paul Johnson Fan Club (PJFC), who performed worship music in gymnasiums, forcing Jacob to earn every penny in his paycheck keeping the suck knob turned low. After a few years, as the venues got nicer and the talent in PJFC got
better, they all got the opportunity to go on tour. It was a 3000 mile round trip and they only needed to play at two venues a total of 4 times, but the band hoped it would be their big break. They drug Jacob along to save them from big bad sound men who threatened to leave the suck knob on high. The tour went well, with the band feeling confident enough to skip the infamous battle of the bands known as the “pipe cleaner talent show and fun.”After the tour, the band continued to play a few local shows.
Eventually the band broke up and Jacob went away to college. When he returned, Jacob found a couple of former PJFC members struggling to survive by performing country music, of all things. Feeling pity, Jacob helps them sound their best when they’re in the studio recording, and even played the washboard on a couple songs from their first CD.
