Takin’ it easy

March 9, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Recently Colonel Cox has been going through a whirlwind of recruitment from local country bands. OK well maybe whirlwind is a bit much but still, our attention as been diverted to prepping for some auditions for some local country bands. Most of our effort will be put towards seeing if any of these projects are going to workout… We’ll keep you updated if anything materializes.

In the mean time check out Miranda Lambert’s myspace for her new single “Famous in a Small Town” and also check out Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson and Ray Price’s new cd coming out March 20th called “Last of the Breed”.

Nashville Star

January 12, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Nashville StarTonight I watched the season premier of Nashville Star. It started with 10 artists (5 guys & 5 gals) and 2 people have already been elminated without a fan vote. Though I won’t say I enjoy all the artists I saw perform I definitely give this show a better rating than the likes of American Idol. On this show you have real musicians and songwriters competing and it makes me wonder… Would I ever compete on a show like that given the chance?

I am inclined to cheer for Kacey Musgraves because of her strong connection to Miranda Lambert, plus she covered a Wrecker’s song to kick off the show. Beyond her is some solid talent but with some of the goo on this show I don’t know if I can keep up watching it, but I do know one thing… I will be watching next week when Miranda Lambert performs.

Could Colonel Cox become a Nashville Star in the 2008 season? I’d guess not, but who knows…

Update: Rehearsal #3

January 8, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Saturday afternoon we got together before heading to a friends house to watch Snakes on a Plane and enjoy some rice krispie bars and tab.

During our rehearsal we started working on a few new covers. They are as follows;

Cocaine Blues” by Johnny Cash
Today I started Loving You Again” by Merle Haggard
Smile” by Julie Roberts

Eventually I want to make The Merle Haggard & Julie Roberts songs a medley and possibly add in a 3rd song to make it medley-licious.

Even though we’ve risen to stardom quickly, there is a long road ahead. We’ve had over 40 plays of our 1st release on MySpace in the past couple days (though most are probably from Aaron & I listening and laughing at ourselves) and our fan base continues to grow. If you’ve accepted the invititation to be our friend on MySpace we count you as one of our fans pledged to our music forever. Keep reading →

Welcome Colonel Cox to the world.

January 3, 2007 · 2 Comments

Today, Colonel Cox, Minneapolis’ latest country act has officially formed.  With a background of playing alt. rock, punk, ska and also playing at our local church we realized that the current state of music officially blew.

After a year of learning what country music was all about and slowly but surely picking up new instruments we decided to push ahead with a new musical venture.  With inspirations such as Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Merle Haggard and a love for Miranda Lambert we’ve began what we hope will carry us to fame or at least to open shows for The Wreckers.

Check out our MySpace page where we’ve uploaded a little sneak peak into our 2nd rehearsal.
